Nurse Imagines...

Imagine taking care of a 23 weeker who it had been decided would be allowed to die in the delivery room because of the small to nonexistent chance for survival. Now imagine his parents have become your best friends and at one year of age, that same 23 weeker (now 14 months old) will be walking down the isle at your wedding, completely healthy and meeting all developmental milestones.

By the way, in case you're wondering, he came out so vigorous they decided to give him a chance. He had a perforated bowel, a grade 2 IVH, and BPD. At 15 months (11 months corrected age) he's been walking for 2 months, he says Mamma and Daddy, he feeds himself and runs toward me with his arms open when I walk in the door. He has some mild reactive airway disease but is otherwise a normal healthy little boy.

Tell me we don't have the best job in the world? How many other jobs get to help make miracles like that happen? Can you imagine any other job?
